Computer Science Education (Microcredential)
Computer Science is growing in popularity in the K-12 system. Because of this, there is a need for qualified licensed teachers in this area. In the state of Wisconsin, teachers that hold a valid Wisconsin Provisional Educator, Lifetime Educator, or Master Educator License have options to add licenses by passing a content exam. (Reference: Additional Subject Area Certification | Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction). One of the licenses that teachers that hold a middle and high school license (4-12) can gain by passing a content test is a Computer Science (4-12) license.
Admissions or Eligibility Requirements: Current UWS students in degree or certificate programs and/or non-degree or special students enrolling at UWS solely for a credit-bearing microcredential. UWS students already enrolled in another degree or certificate (such as minimum UWS GPA).
This program would be best suited for UWS students that have been admitted into one of our approved teaching licensure programs for middle school or high school (4-12) or (K-12).
