Interdisciplinary Studies (Non-Comprehensive) Major

Requirements

35 credits

Major Requirements

This major is available to on-campus students and online students.

The student must work with their academic advisor and the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) Coordinator to develop the Interdisciplinary Student major (non-comprehensive) plan and application.

For the purpose of this major, a 'discipline' or 'discipline area' is either courses with the same prefix OR courses from multiple prefixes that are thematically-tied (the thematic relationship between multiple courses would need explanation in the student program plan narrative).

  1. At least 2 different discipline areas are included in the program plan.
  2. At least 6 credits and no more than 24 credits are included in each of the two discipline areas.
  3. Additional discipline areas and courses may be included as long as the conditions above are met and the additional courses thematically fit with the proposed degree.
  4. At least 18 credits in courses numbered 300 or higher.
  5. Completion of IDS 495 Senior Year Experience.
  6. Completion of at least 43 credits prior to submitting the IDS application.
  7. Student must declare a minor or second major in a different discipline.  The same courses cannot be used to meet the requirements of both the Interdisciplinary Studies major and the minor or second major.
  8. Student must submit (and have approved) an Interdisciplinary Studies major (non-comprehensive) plan application.
